Allow Your Body to Rest

Another point on snacking- I have always said you should allow your body to rest and it does not need to be processing food all the time. It’s great to be backed up by medical  research at the  Metabolic Medicine Department at Glasgow University. It was found that snacking puts stress on the liver and the pancreas as blood sugar levels stay higher during the day. Unless you are a diabetic your body is very good at regulation it’s blood sugar levels and eating regular meals with a gap of about 4-5 hours is ideal.
Eating early in the evening and allowing your body to digest before bed will aid sleep. Your body needs to rest and relax, not be processing some enormous great meal.
These are the behaviours of slim people and with Hypnotherapy I will help your unconscious mind to model this behaviour. One of the first significant changes my clients generally see if that they are no longer snacking between meals and are reawakening the feelings of real hunger in their body. How great is that? How do I help you do this? Click here

The Big Fat Truth About Low Fat Foods

Did you see this programme? It’s so good to see someone backing up all I tell clients. The presenter who normally eats a very healthy diet preparing her meals herself ate nothing but low fat prepared foods for a month. The result; very tired, bowel habits totally disrupted and she put on 3lbs. She was also constantly hungry.
Low calorie drinks will contribute to weight gain and it shocks my clients when I give them the research that has been done.  In the programme some of the ingredients were shown to make wallpaper paste and were extracted from duck feathers. Yuk!
In  a previous life I was a meat buyer for Sainsbury’s and I can tell you I am very picky about what I give my children to eat. Less is defiantly more when it comes to quality and your health.
So stop fooling yourself with low fat rubbish and you will not only lose weight more easily but will be healthier and probably have more money in your pocket!

Stop Snacking between Meals to speed up Weight Loss

Contrary to a lot of nutritional advice I have always advocated 3 meals a day and not snacking between. I was seen by some as very ‘old fashioned’ and they were right. In years gone by we did not have the ‘snack’ mentality. Instant snacks were not readily available anyway and eating 3 meals a day was ‘normal’. Getting to know when you are hungry and embracing that feeling knowing that your body is using up the unwanted fats, sugars and carbohydrate that have sat on your body for too long need to be embraced. The hormone insulin that is released to carry sugar to the cells to burn up as energy, keeps you going for about 3 hours. After this your body will start using energy from the fat stores. Yippee!
So if you allow 4-5 hours between meals you will burn more fat. Professor Atkin, Head of diabetes and metabolic at Hull York Medical School says ‘Fat is burned as soon as your carbohydrate stores fall and you start the mobilisation of fat for energy’ Click here for details of my programme

Diets Don't Work Rant of the New Year!

At Marks & Spencer’s till I counted 20 magazines. Of these only 3 did not refer to dieting in one way or another. Now don’t get me wrong I am all for getting Christmas out the way and starting the New Year with goals for the coming one. In fact I LOVE the whole New Year, new you concept. BUT and this is a big BUT, (or even a very big BUTT) why do so many people decide to go on a diet once again at this time. Diets don’t work for 99% of people. If they did why is the nation getting fatter and why are Weight Watchers, Rosemary Conley Sliming Clubs so successful? If they truly worked then no-one would be overweight, fat or chubby or however you describe yourself.
So many clients say they have tried Weight Watchers etc and it worked. Yes, but for how long and if it did why are you here? Well it all went back on again they say. So it didn’t work then, did it? I know I am on a bit of a rant here but the only way to stay slim and healthy is to permanently change your relationship with food and exercise. If in your unconscious mind you do not have a deep burning desire to be slim and know that is truly who you are you will try one diet after another forever.
My most successful clients of last year came to see me consistently throughout the year to ensure they stayed on course and we addressed any other issues as we went along together. Even when I told them ‘you have got it! You don’t need to come any more’, they still came every 4-6 weeks just to have the support they needed. Average weight loss of these clients 3stone 5lbs.
Don’t delay or waste any more money, pick up the phone and call for your Free Chat on 0118 9782409 at the Wokingham Clinic or 01243 527208 at Chichester.
BTW the magazines that didn’t have diet stuff on were, TV Choice, Sudoku, and Country Living. Just in case you were wondering!

Diet Pills and Fun Snow Time

“What do you think about diet pills?” a client asked me this week. “Not much” I replied. The side effects are too horrible to contemplate. If you fancy risking paranoia or wearing an adult nappy because your bowels are too loose then go ahead!
There are lots of people making lots of money from suckers who think diet pills will help. Some have herbs, some have talcum powder and none are medically endorsed.
I am tempted to shout this next sentence “THERE IS NO QUICK FIX”. The only way to lose weight permanently and safely is to change your eating and exercising habits. If you are indulging in self destructive behaviour we need to get to the bottom of this and help you change it. Hypnotherapy really helps this by changing how you think about many unhelpful situations. Under hypnosis the unconscious mind relaxes and becomes open to new behaviours and beliefs.
It’s snowing as I write this and how lovely to see the children all having fun outside in the school playground. If youngsters spent more time running around playing instead of holed up with computers and X-boxes etc we would have a lot healthier and slimmer teenage population. When did it become so scary to let the kids play out?

SIt Up Straight To Help Weight Loss

One of my top tips to help become aware of when you are full is to eat at the table. This is good for your digestion as your stomach is not squashed as it would be eating on the sofa.
Australian researchers have found that having good posture enables food to reach the lower part of your stomach sooner so letting you know you are full quicker.
My mother had a wooden spoon to hand to whack elbows that found their way onto the table! To put elbows on you have to slouch.
So to avoid eating more that you need (and the wooden spoon), do as your mother told you and “SIT UP STRAIGHT AT THE TABLE”

Sleep More and Lose Weight More effectively

Sleeping less inhibits weight loss and contributed to weight gain. A new study published by the University of Chicago verified this in a new study published in October 2010. They found that those on a diet who had less sleep lost less fat compared to those who had adequate sleep. Cutting back on sleep reduced fat loss by 55%.
People who sleep less also have higher ghrelin levels which reduce energy and stimulate hunger.

More information on the study can be found here.
It is a very common complaint of my weight loss clients that they sleep poorly. However the good news is that when they listen to my Hypnotherapy cd’s as they go to sleep they sleep better and wake more refreshed. I don’t tell clients that this may be a ‘side effect’ of our work together but hear the response of sleeping better again and again.
